Isthmus Cruise and BBQ
August 26, 2006
This years Isthmus Cruise and BBQ was a really fun day as always. There were about 45 of us who took the Catalina Express. Got to the terminal around 6:45 in the morning. There were a few squadron members already inside. There were about 32 boy scouts also waiting for the boat. It took us 90 minutes get to the Island and no dolphins in sight this trip over. Once we got there we started to set up to receive members to get their dinner tickets. Helen Darby and myself usually are in charge of the tickets. There were 140 who attended and had a great dinner of perfectly cooked tri-tip, chili beans, cole slaw and garlic bread. Of course earlier the bar was set up with 2 kegs of golden libation, there was soda and water and some really great snacks. To end the dinner there was carrot, chocolate and white cake.
Bingo was called by Susan Bijork
of Alamitos, with help from Shirley Duesberg of Arrowhead and they did a great
job. We had plenty of participants. This year we had a horseshoe
contest organized by Gene Wilson of Alamitos. The bar was set up by Larry
Saumur, Tres Rios, Pat Armstrong, Covina and Roger Sciafe, Long Beach Power
Squadron.
The appetizer contest who was judged by Sally Bowen from Beaver Lake Power and Sail
Squadron, Arkansas and by Coye who is Dick Duesberg's sister. and was won by Jan
Lawson of Ventura Squadron. The cooks, Ed Wylie, Jerry Ervin, Rick
Sherwood, Ken Griffing and Frank Radomsky did a superb job. Arrowhead squadron
served the food. Below are some pictures taken by Gene Duley, Redondo
Beach PS. We had members from a newly formed power squadron, The "Mojave
Power Squadron" Welcome aboard.
