District 13 Spring Conference 2007
March 16 - 18

Hosted By Costa de Oro Power Squadron

.This years Spring Conference was held in Santa Maria, California a lovely quaint town in the central part of the state.  The hotel was the Santa Maria Inn, it has a great history.  The older section of the hotel has had a lot of dignitaries who have stayed there over the year. On some of the room doors you will find names of movie stars who have stayed in those rooms.  They even have a History Room with lots of pictures.  In front there is a lovely waterfall.

Friday night was registration time, I sat for a while at the table with envelopes for the upcoming Isthmus Cruise, not to sell just to get them to the squadron commander. Friday evening there weren't any host rooms.  We all convened into a large room, there we had some very nice snacks, but the best part was the entertainment.  Before I tell you about the entertainment let me tell you that the 16th was District Commander Marla Brown's birthday.  When she came in the room we all wished her happy birthday and sang to her.  She was very surprised and we had birthday cakes to celebrate, see the pictures below.

The entertainment was from the Santa Maria High School, they were the Folk Lore Mexican Dancers.  The costumes were beautiful and the dancing was from three regions of Mexico. See pictures below.

Saturday morning there was a small meeting, then on to the seminars.  While we were at the morning meeting and seminars, the ladies had a designing session made the table decorations for the dinner dance and some other things.  After lunch we had our big meeting with a message from the Chief Commander Ernie Marshburn given by Past Chief Commander Les Johnson.  This is the 3rd time he has been to one of our conferences with his wife Linda.  After the meeting which ended really early, those who signed up for the wine tasting tour left.  From what I heard it was most delightful.  See pictures below.

Saturday dinner dance was great, the food was  very very good and the hotel workers were very accommodating.  A new Tom Cod Chief was snatched and I mean snatched right out of his unsuspecting chair. Who is it? No one other than P/C Frank Radomsky.  The kudos go to Hank Johnston, Pernilla and John Sheehan and the rest of the squadron member who helped put this together. Pictures below.

Sunday we had a Tom Cod Schooling that was organized by now Past Chief Tom Cod, Bob Baker.  It was well attended I believe we had about 50 people.  Their Brunch was superb. Sorry for those who missed it, it was a great weekend.  See the pictures below.

The last two pictures are of the Grand Prize Winner, she won a river trip of 13 days from Amsterdam to Vienna.
